Sound the bells! Preston’s Bell Station has gained international acclaim, being named one of the world’s most beautiful stations by the prestigious Prix Versailles awards.

Since opening in 2022, Bell Station has become a celebrated landmark, crafted as part of the Victorian Government’s ambitious Level Crossing Removal Project. This year, it stands proudly on the Prix Versailles’ esteemed list of the World’s Most Beautiful Passenger Stations for 2024, which recognises stations that exemplify architectural and design brilliance.

Joining a distinguished global roster, Bell Station sits alongside other iconic names like Schafbergbahn Station in St Wolfgang, Austria; Beijing Station, China; Toulouse Matabiau Station, France; Chiaia Metro Station in Naples, Italy; and Grand Central Madison in New York, USA.

Bell Station’s design honours Preston’s cultural and historical legacy. The station’s exterior showcases local artistry with a facade inspired by post-war rooftops, featuring intricate patterns and a distinctive pink and purple glazing. This thoughtful design, merging art with function, reflects the local heritage, adding vibrancy to the area.

The station offers a variety of commuter-friendly features. From elevated platforms with sheltered seating to a spacious waiting area, accessible lifts, stairs, and generous bicycle storage, Bell Station is a welcoming hub for modern travellers, promoting sustainable commuting options.
